Beer database is live

We have been working hard at the Pint Please office to bring the Pint Please’s great beer database live on the web. There’s currently over 250 000 beers listed in Pint Please and tens of thousands of breweries. Every week nearly thousand new beers are added to Pint Please by our users. Earlier these beers could be seen only in the Pint Please app. Now the beers are live also on the web.
Check out some examples how the beer / brewery profiles currently look:
- Punk IPA by Brewdog
- Sierra Nevada Pale Ale by Sierra Nevada
- Pilsner Urquell by Plzensky Prazdroj (Asahi)
Where’s the search?
There is not yet a search feature for the beers at pintplease.com. That is coming a bit later. Currently we are focusing on the search engine optimisation (SEO) so that Google, Bing and other search engines would actually find the beers and could show the search results (beers) for a user when he/she searches for a certain beer. This is quite a lot of work and trial and error and will be an ongoing task for us. Are you a SEO guru? Could you help us? 😉
Number one reason for bringing the beer database public is to get more eye balls for Pint Please. Some of the users who are interested in certain beer will find the site via Google search and will convert to Pint Please app users and start to rate beers and write reviews. This will then again help the beer profiles be more valuable for anybody who is interested about certain beers.
What’s happening next?
Later on we will want to enhance the beer and brewery profiles with more statistical information which we can dig from our data. These could be for example of rankings how the beer or brewery is doing against other beers and breweries. This data will then be shown also in the Pint Please app.
We will also plan a better way to clean up the beer and brewery data from duplicates etc. This would most likely involve better editing options for our Super Users who have been helping to edit the existing beer content in the app.
Our sincere thanks to everybody who has been adding new beers and breweries, correcting the mistakes in the beer data and reporting problems in Pint Please! This couldn’t be done without you. There’s just so many beers! 😄
Some users have been asking about possibility to create beer reviews on the browser on the desktop. That would be a nice feature and quite practical when real keyboard could be used especially for those who like to write longer reviews. First we need to get more visibility for the app which will be done via the new site including the beer and brewery information.
Your feedback needed
It’s quite hard to actually browse the beers and reviews in the site until we create the search functionality on pintplease.com. Search is still coming, hang on there! In a meanwhile please let us know what do you think about the beer and brewery profiles and what could be improved. You can send you comments and ideas to info@pintplease.com.
Did you know that you can already search and share beers and breweries in the Pint Please app? Just tap the Share button in a beer/brewery profile in the app. This actually shares a link to the beer profile in the web.
