Most popular beer styles of Q2/2023 new beer releases

The second quarter of 2023 brought a surprising shift in beer preferences with the New England IPA / Hazy IPA dethroning the traditional India Pale Ale. Notably, the Session IPA also made its way into the top 10, signalling a growing fondness for more sessionable IPAs and breweries preparing for the summer with their bit lighter beers. Pilsner and Imperial Stout switched positions between six and eight, probably for this reason.

As the list shows, no style has a 10% share of the total new beer releases. There are over 130 beer styles in Pint Please, including mixed drinks, ciders etc.

NEIPA was the most popular beer style of new beers released in Q2/2023.

ABVs and styles

Diving deeper into the data, we’ve analyzed the average alcohol by volume (ABV) levels for the top beer styles in Q2/2023. The median ABV for NEIPAs dipped slightly to 6.2%, down by 0.3% from Q1. In contrast, traditional IPAs saw an increase in their median ABV, rising by 0.2% to match NEIPAs at 6.2%.
