Best and worst Swedish beers according to Finns

This blog post will take a serious look at what the Finnish Pint Please users think about Swedish beers. The data is collected from reviews made in Finland about beers that were made in Sweden. You can find the Finnish version of this blog post here.

Ever since the ancient Greeks roamed this earth it has been known that Finns and Swedes are like cats and dogs. Plato would bemoan our hockey games that always went on overtime while Socrates revered our exploits at music. The Swedes composing hit songs one after the other and the Finns, equally impressively, scoring 0 points at a record number of Eurovision song contests. So we’re evenly matched at pretty much everything. Or are we?
If there’s one thing the Finns are good at, it’s drinking beer. Beer is the third most consumed liquid in the world and the Finns have definitely done their part at making it so. We’re world renowned at two things: Butchering the english language at car race interviews and drinking beer. We love the stuff, and most of it is enjoyed lying on a sofa in our underwear. So it’s about time to bring this fight to our home turf. Let’s find a comfy spot on the sofa, lose the pants, and see how we feel about their beers.
Top 5 worst rated beers from Sweden

First of all we aren’t impressed with branded fanboy beers. Sure you can put the name of an iconic rock band on a bottle, but that doesn’t make low quality lager taste any better and we aren’t amused. A familiar name may make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but when those high expectations come crashing down after the first taste we make sure to tell our friends not to bother. KISS Destroyer and Motörhead Bastard Lager illustrate this nicely. The bands may be cool but the beers sure aren’t.
Interestingly though we seem to be somewhat confused about what to buy since the worst rated beers are also the ones we drink the most (out of the Swedish beers). Availability must certainly have something to do with it. You don’t have to go very far to find a store or a kiosk with a beer shelf bending under the most boring ales ever bottled. There are, however, some decent beers in those shelfs too so what about them?

We aren’t at all averse to the stronger ales. The taste of alcohol isn’t exactly foreign to us. So we like beers that have a bit of a kick to them. We also have a bit of a sweet tooth and aren’t ashamed to admit it. So there, we like cake. A tasty Omnipollo cake stout hits the spot perfectly.
The thing about these pungent beers is, though, that you can’t have more than one in one sitting. You really need to cleanse your palate after such an avalanche of flavors. And the thing to do it is a six pack of flat lagers that you couldn’t care less about. 😉
So there you have it. We prefer the strong and strange ones, but mostly drink the weak and watery ones. Who knew the Finns could be so complex?
