Easter beers, please!

Easter beers, please!

Spring has sprung, and what better way to celebrate than with Easter beers? From mutton to chocolate eggs, traditional Easter dishes are perfectly paired with a cold brew. So, we did some digging in Pint Please’s beer database to find the most popular styles of Easter beers.

Originating in the Nordic countries, Easter Ale has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages when brewing beer was a cherished part of celebrations and rituals. Special, strong beers were brewed during Easter time to bring good luck and protection in the coming year.

Swedish breweries have particularly excelled at crafting delicious Easter beers, with most of the beers in Pint Please’s database hailing from Sweden. One of the classic Easter beers is the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Fastenbier from Germany.

Dark, rich and spicy

Easter beers are usually a bit stronger than regular beers, with an average alcohol content of 5.6% and often reaching between 6-9% in Pint Please. These beers are often darker, fuller and might feature various spices and herbs, such as juniper berries for a unique and characteristic taste and aroma. You can also find non-alcoholic or low-alcohol options on the market, but they may not be as popular. At least not among Pint Please users.

The most popular Easter beer styles

The most common Easter beer styles are brown ale, dark lager and red ale. Saison style can also be found among the ten most popular Easter beer styles. There are also several options for pale lager and pilsner lovers if you are not into darker or fuller beers.

  1. Brown Ale
  2. Dark Lager
  3. Red Ale / Amber Ale
  4. Porter
  5. Mild Ale
  6. Pale Lager
  7. Pilsner
  8. India Pale Ale
  9. Pale Ale – English
  10. Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Easter, great but short

But with fewer Easter beers available than Christmas beers, the season is short and sweet. Although it may feel “wrong” to buy Easter beers on May Day, the beers are just as good even after the holiday, and stores may sell them at a discount.

So, don’t miss out on the opportunity to try these seasonal delicacies. Grab a bottle of Easter beer at your local store or order a pint at your favourite pub, and toast to the arrival of spring with a delicious brew.

P.S. Brewery, remember to register your brewery for FREE and make sure your beers look good in Pint Please.
