Germany has a long and successful history in brewing. In Germany, you can find some of the oldest breweries in the whole world like Weltenburger Klosterbrauerei (founded in 1050) and Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan (founded in 1040) in which latter advertises itself as the oldest brewery in the world still operating. Although some say that this honour belongs to the brewery first mentioned. Who knows how this really is….

Good beer and good sausage are part of the German culture
And who wouldn’t have heard the 1516 Purity order or Reinheitsgebot. The regulation some of the breweries (and not only in Germany) still claim are using. Although in reality most likely no commercial breweries are using this anymore. Besides this regulation has been altered many times especially in the late 1900s and early 2000s. And on top of that, the current EU laws are allowing German breweries to use the same ingredient as any other brewery in the EU. So try to figure out how Germans are brewing their beer nowadays….
Whichever the are brewing beer, no one can deny that Germans wouldn’t handle some of the beer styles as best brewers in the whole world. Such beers as different Wheat beer, Altbiers, Kölsch or many Lagers-styles.
On the other hand, Germany isn’t exactly shining in the craft beer map in which many blames the Reinheitsgebot which has basically prevent different beer styles ever develope in Germany. So brewing history is long but not so colourful. Know-How in brewing is no doubt extremely large in Germany. And some world-known craft breweries have been able to rise to widespread public attention. Writing this CREW Republic comes to mind.
Speaking about Germany who can not think about Oktoberfest?! Which are held annually during the end of September and beginning of October. Now in 2019, this world largest beer fest is being held for the 186th time. Germans are proud of their beer and beer is part of the culture perhaps more so than any other country in the world.

Beer is being enjoyed by millions of people every year in Oktoberfest
Every now and then all of us want to drink some good, well-brewed old fashioned beer like Hefeweizen (or at least I do) and then German beer is often an easy choice. What is your favourite German beer?
