Most Popular Beer Styles and ABVs of The New Beer Releases

Pint Please saw over 37,000 new beers and drinks added in 2022, with microbreweries contributing the majority. IPAs, New England IPAs, and sours were the most popular styles, and the average alcohol content was higher than before. The data provides valuable insights for brewers looking to stand out in an increasingly crowded market.
There are thousands of new beers and ciders released every month by various breweries from all around the world. Over 37,000 new drinks were added to Pint Please. These new additions came from a variety of breweries, with some interesting trends emerging from the data.
64% of all the new drinks added to Pint Please were from microbreweries while 7% were brewed by large macro breweries. Drinks made by brewpubs consisted of 15% of the total amount of new drinks. It is clear that it’s the small ones who are innovating and trying out the newest things.
It’s getting a bit stronger
The average ABV of the new beers was 6.2%, which is slightly higher than the overall average of those rated in 2022 at 5.97%. The median ABV of the added new beers was 5.8%, compared to the overall median ABV of 5.5% of what users actually rated in Pint Please. The lightest added new beers were non-alcoholic, while the strongest had an ABV of 25%.
In general new beers released in 2022 were a bit stronger than what Pint Please users generally used to drink.
Hottest beer styles with breweries
The new beers and drinks added to Pint Please in 2022 covered 136 different styles. IPA, NEIPA and sour – these were the styles which got the most love from breweries worldwide as they consisted of over 20% of all new drinks added to Pint Please in 2022. The most popular styles were:

The most unfashionable styles among breweries were India Dark Lager and Oyster stouts. So breweries, listen up. If you want to brew something that other breweries don’t, try those styles.

All the breweries that have released the largest amount of new beers are relatively young. Northern Monk Brew Co. was established in 2013, while Basqueland Brewing from Spain and Funky Fluid from Poland were founded in 2016 and 2015, respectively.
This youthfulness, however, has not stopped them from experimenting with various brewing techniques, ingredients, and flavour combinations, which has undoubtedly led to more experience in the craft of brewing. As a result, they have been able to create better and more innovative beers that stand out in the crowded craft beer market.
The craft beer movement continues to grow, with microbreweries leading the way in producing new and interesting flavours. Additionally, beer enthusiasts seem to have a preference for higher ABV beers, and IPAs remain a popular style.
