The Alma. London’s best movie themed pub?

This blog post begins a series of featured pubs. The pubs we present in this series will be ones that stand out from the others. Ones that serve good beer in a good atmosphere with a good attitude. Ones that you want to return to.  A case in point: The Alma at Islington in North London.

So if you ever find yourself in Islington then this is a pub you’re going to want to visit. Ask any local dog, they’ve all been there. And so have celebrities like Hugo Speer of the Full Monty fame and also Liam Gallagher from the little known ensemble called Oasis.

The Alma is a movie themed pub that was founded in 2013, originally as a restaurant. The first piece of artwork was a canvas of Steve McQueen, but the collection of movie memorabilia and artworks has been greatly expanded since then.

As already mentioned, the pub is frequented by stars. Hugo Speer is a regular visitor. Liam Gallagher loves it and says it’s like his living room at home. And the dogs? They’re among the regular patrons as well. They come, escorted by a human with a wallet, to lap up a bowl of Snuffle, a beer brewed for dogs.

In addition to the doggy beer they also serve craft beers to the other furry-faced beer sniffers, but The Alma isn’t just a hipster hangout. You will see people of all varieties having a pint with some traditional pub food or maybe even a lobster from the specials menu. From superstars on their day off to tourists taking pictures, older geezers grazing on Guinness and of course dogs, sniffing your behind.

The interesting craft beers, local folk music nights, a quiz and weekend DJs have made The Alma the busiest pub in the area. This was recognized by TimeOut London who gave The Alma the award for the most loved pub in Islington in 2015.

So be sure to drop by The Alma. You can’t miss it. It’s the inviting looking place that looks a bit like your living room. If you’re a rock icon that is.
