Came here because they hold a CAMRA award for always having a Mild on tap. Well they didn’t today! lol
I wasn’t aware of the absolute gem of a pub this is. Its interior is a thing of beauty. The bar serving the lounge retains the stained glass and varnished wooded hatched servery since it was built. Ornate glass ceiling and even the booths retained their bell for ringing for serving, although they didn’t work.
Anyway, the beer… hints of smoke, a bit of fruitiness, and loads of astringent bitterness from the roast malts. Too much for me, left a real ash like flavour in my mouth, too powerful.

Fairly pleasant stout that is slightly sweeter then Guinness
