Advent Calendar Beer #️⃣3️⃣. Murky, dark brown is the appearance of this beer. The carbonation is a bit wild child and starts misbehaving right at cracking the can open. A fawn foam is pushed out of the can and spills on the table. Fortunately, not much. The foamy crown thickens up to two fingers and melts gradually to a generous lace ring and dense lacing.
The nose receives cookie, bitter caramel and a nutty slam. The various nuances are, nevertheless, somewhat limited. Furthermore, I can pick a faint herbal twist that I can't recognize. Or is it floral? Could even be something that may have used in my herbal beers but, like said, can't identify it.
Brown caramel malt, cookie, a bit of cacao beans, marginal piney hops and distant aniseed on the tongue. Interesting. The aniseed note must come from tarragon that is an ingredient unlike aniseed. Otherwise quite pleasant but the aniseed brings in an unexpected tweak to the cocktail but I surely appreciate the brewery's innovative approach.
The body is light to light-medium. Not really up to the ABV. The tail lifts the herbal tarragon/aniseed higher and also maintains the moderate bitterness of the flavor package up to the end.
The mouthfeel is light, slightly herbal, smooth and fragrant. It doesn't feel dry but leaves a drying feeling on the teeth. +0.2 stars extra for an uncommon herb in the beer.
