Let's have a glass of Mead. The ABV clocks a whopping 16 %. And the sugar content is probably 116 % – enough to spark an immediate diabetes. Well, whatever. Yolo anyway. I bought this at the Warsaw airport in late 2024 at the end of my first visit to Kyiv. I don't have any special reason for opening it now, I just felt like why not. The appearance is lucid. Of course. The color is very deep, dark copper, approaching even brown. A faint crimson reflection vibrates throughout the drink. And no carbonation, no head either. The liquid moves like a thick lubricant, the color is just different. The scent is sweet, what else? The first component is interesting: strawberry. I can't explain why I'm picking strawberry here. Honey is ample, sweet of course, even oversweet, but still not unbearable. Maybe also a dash of orange peel jam can be detected. Honey is absolutely the number one element on the tastebuds. Sweet, not overly thick, rather relatively juicy. Orange jam, nectarine and a hint of strawberry fill in the auxiliary positions of the taste profile. The finish doesn't change flavorwise but leaves a tantalizing warming sensation in the mouth. The mouthfeel is, indeed, thick, sappy and warming. It shouldn't be a surprise if you have read this far. It's full, deep, very nectar-like and absolutely desserty. Enjoyable in small portions. My 750 ml bottle will make lots of them. 😆
