40 Ft. Brewery
England

Ben Ott grew up in Cologne, so it’s no surprise that his first beer at 40ft was a Kolsch, and a very good one at that. Made using Golden Promise, one of the finest English malts, Larger (not a typo!) is a clean, superbly drinkable pale beer with just enough prickly hop bitterness. Ott, once head brewer at Truman’s, works out of three shipping containers in a Dalston yard, a situation that belies his talent and depth of brewing knowledge. He wears a flat cap, a sartorial decision that can be at least partially explained by his half-Scouse heritage; his mum’s side of the family comes from Aigburth.

Golden transparent robe. Not foamy. Honey and lemon peel aroma. Taste is slightly sweet and bitter. Citrusy and fresh. Low medium carbonation. Quite persistent with lemon peel aroma. Round and creamy mouthfeel

Definitely hints of Eccles Cakes, albeit a while since I had one of them. Nevertheless a decent enough stout and quite enjoyable.
