The Five Points Brewing Company

Some breweries appear to open almost by accident, their beers sent out into the world on little more than desire and self-belief: Five Points is not one of those breweries. The man behind it is Ed Mason (once owner of the late, lamented Mason and Taylor) and everything about Five Points (like the cute bottle caps, for example) suggests attention to detail is one of his strong points. The beer is similarly well thought-out: the likes of Hook Island Red and Five Points Pale are designed to appeal to the growing breed of drinkers who want a big whack of hops and balance in their beer.

Reasonable Porter but without too many distinguishing features

Fresh, slightly fizzy, tropical, light hops. Judge’s label: Would have another

Really nice fruity beer. Well hopped with citra, centennial and mosaic hops. Very nice beer.

A good head and an amber light haziness. Hints of orange on the nose and tongue. Overall well balanced pale ale. Good finishing mouthfeel with the hops tingling the roof of your mouth. Slightly sharp, but pleasant if unspectacular. Judge’s label: Would have another

Well hopped with tropical flavour. Almost getting a hint of tobacco? Great beer and a bit of a bargain at 79p in Heron Foods. Nice drop this.
