Weihenstephaner Original Helles Alkoholfrei, Germany

Thrilled to try an authentic German AF Helles. It pours golden yellow, semi transparent with moderate carbonation and an abundance of velvet soft foam. Arguably an inversion of the real deal original. Scents of wheat, barley, some honey mashed in and a watery grass finish at the end. The mouthfeel is soft, medium bodied and very foamy. The moderate carbonation gave a meagre bite at the start, which actually diminished quite quickly, leaving the beer flat. Taste is a nice malted barley at first, with only a hint of the honey before prominent grass and water roll in, with a mildly soapy aftertaste. While this is very different from the original Helles, it is still a very nice AF beer. For me it lacks the crisp and pure profile of the authentic Helles, replaced with watered down key notes and added sweetness.

Kirkas, kullankeltainen olut.
