Musta. Kuohkea beige vaahto. Tuoksu bourbon. Maku pehmeä suklainen, bourbon, vaahterasiirappia ja vaniljaa. Miellyttävä olut.

Black Imperial Stout with a tan foam head that almost matches the label color. Aroma of Bourbon barrel, cocoa, dried fruits and vanilla. Medium to full bodied and clearly a dessert IS. Taste continues the the enticing aroma. Chocolate and Bourbon accompanied with vanilla, maple syrup and Demerara sugar. Light bitterness and wood. Drying towards the finish. Straight forward and honest IS that delivers what the label promises. No gimmicks. Will buy again.

This packs a punch. Enjoyed but only had a third and couldn’t have more. Really strong and the whisky really comes through

Imperial stouttia Northern Monkilta. Parasta ennen 19.11.2020. Olisi saanut ehkä kypsyä vielä, mutta maistetaan nyt silti. Lasiin kaatuu mustaa olutta, joka muodostaa parin sormen paksuisen vaaleanruskean vaahdon. Tuoksussa lempeää bourbonia, tammisuutta, kuivattua tummaa hedelmää ja hivenen vaniljaa. Maussa tulee kivasti bourbonin ohella runsas, suklainen ja vaniljainen makeus ja tahmeaa vaahterasiirappia. Jälkimaussa taas viskiä ja tammisuutta. Vaikka maku on runsas niin runko jää lähelle täyteläistä. Lämmin ja olemattomat hiilihapot, pehmeä silti, vaikkakin paksuutta olisi saanut olla lisää. Jotenkin yllättävän helppo tynnyrikypsytetty IS. Makoisa oli kuitenkin ja etenkin itselle mieluisa makeahko makupaletti.

Can. Best before: 19.11.2020 Temperature: +14 C Black. Light-brown head. Fairly good retention. The texture looks suspiciously light: 4/5 Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, fruits, light maple. Good but needs to be stronger: 4,25/5 Unfortunately, as I expected, the body is only medium. Soft carbonation. Mild bitterness (only 20 IBU). Barrel aging gives a nice touch: 3,5/5 Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, oak, bourbon-like alcohol, can't find maple. Wide-scale of flavors but lacks depth: 11/15 Ok, nothing special though. Need plenty more body. Northern monk hasn't really blown my mind yet: 14/20 =36,75/50

Scent has vanilla soft ice cream, maple syrup and is quite subtle. Entrance has smooth bourbon, feels fluffy, then some dark fruits and licorice, slight real vanilla and maple syrup and then back again at bourbon barrel. Mouthfeel is bit too soft and could be fuller, but flavours are full so it fills up the space.
