Wood Cutter
5.7% Rye IPA
Meet ‘Wood Cutter’, a comforting Rye IPA with hints of light spice, light crystal malts and a touch of caramel from the rye. Combine this touch of comfort with a dose of tropical fruit and sweet pine from a chunky hop combination of Idaho 7, Simcoe and Ekuanot Cryo Hops. Expect to see more of John’s artwork up at our taproom, 'The Brewhouse Project’, as we hold a running exhibition of his work with the theme ’Tuning into the Landscape’. Never had a rye IPA before I don't think and I'm a bit surprised it's not coloured like a red ale. It's pale and biscuity coloured and opaque with haze. Aromas of tropical fruit, pine and citrus. Soft mouthfeel with a light body and gentle tastebud impact. The finish is short to medium length, fruity with grapefruit and accompanied by pine. Soft tropical fruits via Simcoe are nice for some depth the malt is there but it's subtle and shows as a toffee edge on the pine. The more you drink it the more caramel it gets and less fruity. It's something a bit different.
