Very pale like tropical squash (cordial) quite hazy but not opaque and next to no head retention, will liven up after a swirl in the glass though. Very hoppy on the nose for a pale, light and bright with a backbone of citrus, tropical and stone fruit, like peach, lime, orange, mango and passionfruit. Shame these fruits on the nose aren't representative on the tongue too. It's a very dry and short finish with a wheaty mid and end. Perhaps the fruit will come out as the brew warms and breathes but right now it's very nothingy. I suppose a positive at this point is it's refreshing in its own way, and you do get a bit of hops building up in the ghost finish. I'm starting to get a little bit of mango and passionfruit, nothing like the extent on the nose mind you. It's not bad, very clean and pleasant to drink..just a bit lackluster especially considering the array of hops used: Idaho, Simcoe, Citra and El Dorado. You could make a serious IPA out of those and should have a decent pale with them too. I will edit this if it sparks into life later. Perhaps this brew is old...it's not on the Arundel website, lets have a look...19th September and it's 3rd of November so yeh that's not ideal. So let's put it down to dying hops. Going by the nose this could have been a contended to Steady Rolling Man, maybe it would be when it's not passing away!

Local to me Arundel brewery have really come leaps and bounds epsesh with their collaborations so I'm looking forward to this one with Staggeringly Good (I had a taster of it on tap before purchasing). Very place grapefruit hue, minimal head left over and a big boy aroma. Loads of hops and juice, namely papaya, grapefruit, satsuma, apricot and a forest of pine. Nicely soft but not silky or creamy, carbonation is still there quite prominently and the finish is medium to long. Tangy with that BBC Citra, a bit dank from Idaho 7 and juicy from Simcoe and El Dorado. Speaking of which I'd like a large portion of El Dorado in this brew, it would elevate it into lush territory. That said, it is noticeable as part of a band of hops playing together congruously. Being a 5.5% brew it is barely an IPA and closer to a pale. It lacks richness and depth of bigger IPAs but it does mean it's more approachable and drinkable. The strongest taste in this brew is the tangy pure hop BBC style Citra. It is good but not staggeringly good, excuse the pun.

Never had a rye IPA before I don't think and I'm a bit surprised it's not coloured like a red ale. It's pale and biscuity coloured and opaque with haze. Aromas of tropical fruit, pine and citrus. Soft mouthfeel with a light body and gentle tastebud impact. The finish is short to medium length, fruity with grapefruit and accompanied by pine. Soft tropical fruits via Simcoe are nice for some depth the malt is there but it's subtle and shows as a toffee edge on the pine. The more you drink it the more caramel it gets and less fruity. It's something a bit different.
