Goose Island -tastingin viies. Just sopivan kevyesti banaaninen stout.

I have been saving this 2023 Bourbon County Banana Foster Stout for a special occasion. But Ryan insisted we have it tonight because we don't have much else for Duos. It's not really fair to have such lofty expectations but Bourbon County has brought this on themselves. Anything below excellent will be a disappointment. It actually had a decent head but my photo was late. Deep tan color but disappeared in short order. Aroma gives a mellow and even blend of bourbon, banana and cinnamon. Texture is soft and sticky, not syrupy. It still has some effervescence in the body that keeps it from being too heavy. Flavor immediately has bourbon with barrel notes, bananas, and just the right dash of cinnamon. The finish turns crisp, a little bitter and has overtones of licorice that travel up my sinus on the exhale. Perhaps that's the Cassia bark. As it warms, the alcohol seems more apparent, the licorice seems more earthy, and the cinnamon becomes more apparent. Both Bourbon and banana flavor remain the same except the banana seems more like banana bread than raw banana. All flavors are well balanced and true. This brew simply sits back, mellow and confident. It doesn't come at you strong, screaming "give me a 5". It has character thats gentle, smooth, balanced, even confident in it's quality. Easily the most laid-back, easy going 5 I've given. Goose Island, you guys are amazing! PS: that's me and Thomas, my beer buddy, mean ass cat in Houston that for some reason loves me.
