Barrel Aged Advent Calendar Day #23
Canned in 2021
Bourbon, salted caramel, chocolate notes and oak in the aroma. Taste has salted caramel first, followed by bourbon, oak and chocolate notes. The oak is ashy which helps to highlight the roasted malts that I didn't initially pick up on. The salted caramel is still noticeable, but it's more of a lightly salted caramel at this point. Some flavors have faded a bit, but the overall drinking experience is still great.
The body is full and mouth-coating with an appropriately low amount of carbonation.
This was the last new addition to the Gravity anniversary release before they started to fall apart. While it's not my favorite of the anniversary releases, it's a super solid beer and one that I could see myself looking forward to in the future.
I've said it a few times throughout this year's calendar, but I really hope they get it together and rebuild the momentum they had with their anniversary releases. This is not only my last can of this particular beer, but (aside from my 4 year vertical of gravity) this is also my last Ellison can. It's a bit bittersweet, but beer is meant to be drank, not stored. No regrets.
